Veterinary Technician or Assistant

Associate Veterinarian

Cypress Veterinary Clinic is a brand-new, state-of-the-art facility with modern equipment, opened in May 2022. We are a three-doctor, privately owned, woman- and mom-owned small animal hospital looking for a warm, capable part-time associate veterinarian to join our team. We see dogs and cats but have exotic equipment and experience support staff.

Schedule:

  • 2 shifts per week 8am-6pm (12-1 blocked) for appointments
  • If there is surgical interest then a half day of surgery is possible in addition to above

Who We’re Looking For:

  • A veterinarian who listens to clients and communicates with empathy
  • Willing to help with sick, emergent, walk in or additional appointments that are added to the daily schedule.
  • Practices a spectrum of care and follows up on cases
  • While we strive to maintain a set schedule, can switch shifts to cover colleagues for kid events, illness, or other unexpected needs
  • Values teamwork, kindness, and good medicine
  • Experience level is flexible — fit and communication matter more than years in practice
  • Ability to complete blood work at home to remove pressure off full time associates
  • 2 schedule options: 1) Two days a week, 8-6pm (last appointment at 5pm) or 2) Adding a surgery day (9-done, no appointments)

OFFICIAL Job Description:

-Preference towards Spanish speaking bilingual applicant.

-Customer Service Representatives are the first people clients interact with and set the tone of how our practice treats their patients. CSRs need to exude our culture. Be patient, listen, show compassion and sympathy. Understand the emotion clients feel towards their pets when they are worried.

– Previous experience or training/education working in a veterinary facility is required

-Willing to be cross-trained for veterinary assistant type roles

-Telephone and computer skills are necessary

-Organized and detail oriented

-Must be willing to understand that sometimes we have to stay late or help cover a shift

-Cleans and maintains work area and participates in ALL hospital cleaning duties

-Know what to look for and to ask clients, help determine if the animals behavioral changes or clinical symptoms could indicate illness or injury.

-Demonstrates an understanding of workplace safety and OSHA guidelines/regulations

-Performs office reception duties, such as answering phones, greeting and talking politely to clients while making eye contact, scheduling appointments, and helping customers. Helping with triaging immediate emergencies and being able to communicate effectively to CVTs, VAs and Doctors.

– 3 year experience preferred.

– Previous experience or training/education working in a veterinary facility

-Assist the doctor(s) in executing treatment plans for patients, communicate with and educate clients about medical recommendations, treatments, and procedures, maintain function and cleanliness of clinical premises and equipment, oversee anesthetic monitoring and implementation of anesthetic protocols, perform dental radiographs and prophylaxis, and to attend to doctor’s needs during dental and surgical procedures. Knowledge, Skills and Physical Requirements

-Willing to be cross-trained for front office/receptionist duties

-Telephone and computer skills are necessary

-Organized and detail oriented

-Must be able to lift 40 pounds

-Must be willing to understand that sometimes we have to stay late or help cover a shift

-Holds or restrains animals during veterinary procedures and examinations

-Cleans and maintains kennels, animal holding areas, examination or operating rooms, or animal loading or unloading facilities to control the spread of disease.

-Fills medication prescriptions.

-Monitors animals during anesthesia and recovery and notifies veterinarian(s) of any unusual changes or symptoms.

-Cleans, maintains, and sterilizes instruments or equipment.

-Examines animals to detect behavioral changes or clinical symptoms that could indicate illness or injury.

-Educates or advises clients on animal health care, nutrition, or behavior problems.

-Administers medications and immunizations to animals as prescribed by veterinarian(s).

-Collects laboratory specimens, such as blood, urine, or feces for testing.

-Is able to place intravenous catheters and perform endotracheal intubation

-Demonstrates an understanding of workplace safety and OSHA guidelines/regulations

-Provides emergency first aid to sick or injured animals.

-Performs routine laboratory tests or diagnostic tests, such as running packed cell volume measurements, preparing ear cytology’s, and taking radiographs (both general and intraoral during dental procedures)

-Exercise animals or provides them with companionship.

-Performs office reception duties, such as answering phones, scheduling appointments, and helping customers.

-Performs hygiene-related duties, such as clipping animals’ claws, ear cleanings, and anal sac expressions
